Before the 1920s, men and women were not seen showing their arms off in public.
It’s 2020 now and, Girl, have things changed.
In the United States and Canada, this garment is commonly known as a tank top, muscle shirt, and the embarrassing wifebeater.
The term wifebeater reportedly became synonymous with a tank top after a criminal case in 1947. A Detroit native - who does not deserve to be named - was arrested for beating his wife to death. News outlets printed a photo of this piece of crap wearing a stained undershirt and referred to him as "the wife-beater."
Isn’t it peculiar how things come to be?
At any rate, that guy in Detroit has nothing to do with what we’re doing over here. We are celebrating you in all of your chocolativity. We are celebrating your diversity. We are celebrating you as a woman, because, well...um, that's one of our most favorite things to do.
We’re just glad to see you here.
With your arms out and all.
